AWAKENINGS

In this series of paintings, I portray the moment of revelation in the flux of interplay between darkness and light...

Art has the power to arrest our hyper-functioning, reactionary minds as it calls us to journey inward. There we find a felt communion between what we are looking at and our barest selves. Art can restore connection to our truest identity. The peace and clarity we find here can naturally ripple out into our actions and outer relationships. The simplicity of being in the world and all action, all living coming from that place.

There is an alchemy in the process of making art that reveals as much to the artist as to the viewer. Authorship can only be claimed to a practical degree. I try to paint from the place of encounter, seeking revelation in the flux of interplay between darkness and light. Surrender to the process of making, the discernment of the human condition seen beyond our animal and social filters. Paintings become like records or anecdotes of portions of the journey, at best with a leading of the next step to take.
